EREVAN CHORAL SOCIETY

In January 1966, the Erevan Choral Society was born. The members of the Holy Trinity Armenian Church Choir of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a small group of passionate young men and women, along with the late Helen Mouradjian, as accompanist, under the direction of Father Oshagan Minassian, the choir director, assembled in the Charles and Nevart Talanian Cultural Hall. They began an experiment in Armenian choral music with a spirited commitment to perpetuate Armenian musical culture and to provide the Greater Boston communities with exciting and colorful multi-cultural programs of the highest quality.

Among the many accomplishments of the Erevan Choral Society are annual Spring and Christmas concerts. The chorus has also participated in various music festivals and celebrations, and has also performed throughout New England, New York, Connecticut, and California, receiving consistent praise in both the Armenian and American media.

The chorus presently consists of 50 dedicated and gifted singers complemented by a professional 27-member orchestra. New members are invited to come and join their ranks and share in the joy of singing in the common love and magic of beautiful music performed for the aesthetic growth and cultural enrichment of their audiences and communities.

Father Oshagan Minassian, founder and conductor of the Erevan Choral Society, is also the director of the choir of the Holy Trinity Armenian Church, a position he has held since 1965. Father Minassian received his Masters Degree in Religious Education in 1962, his Th.D. in Church History in 1974, and his Masters Degree in Sacred Music in 1982 from Boston University. He has studied under the renowned conductor Dr. Allen C. Lannom of Boston University. Father Oshagan presently is engaged in writing a book entitled The Music of Armenia: A History.
